Dr. Michael Alvarez grew up in Indiana. Having bad eyes as a young child and seeing his mother have several corneal transplants, Dr. Alvarez developed an interest in optometry at an early age. He is excited to begin providing excellent eye care in Loogootee as its new optometrist.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Alvarez graduated from Indiana University’s School of Optometry in 1995. After graduation, he practiced medical optometry until 2002 in Illinois. Dr. Alvarez moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and started his practice in 2002.
Dr Alvarez has years of experience in diagnosing and treating vision disorders such as nearsightedness and farsightedness, Glaucoma, cataracts and Diabetic Retinopathy. If you are diagnosed with an eye disease, you want the best treatment available to get your eyes healthy again. Dr Alvarez stays current with best treatment practices. Based on your diagnosis, we may recommend a wide variety of approaches, including improved nutrition, prescription medicines, or medical procedures.
He is a member of Indiana Optometric Association and American Optometric Association.Dr. Alvarez is active in the community and regularly provides vision screenings as well as supporting the Special Olympics, GIGI University and Soul Brothers Dance Troupe. In his spare time Dr. Alvarez loves to read books and spend time with his wife and four children.
Peggy is our Optometric assistant. During her 30 years, she has met and served every one of our many patients. She mainly works on insurance, but her expertise in optical will make you feel and look good in new frames. She also is a pro at Contact Lens fittings and glasses adjustment. She has been in charge of Crane's Safety Glasses program for 25 years.
She is a native of Rutherford Township and graduated from Loogootee High School. She is married to Gerry and has two daughters, Tonya Mathies and Nikki Gee. Rounding out her family are her two stepsons, Brett and Gage. Peggy loves spending time with her family and cheering for her grandkids Haylie, Landon and Tyson at their sporting events. She enjoys walking for exercise, playing Bunco with friends and serving the community in the Tri Kappa Sorority.
Barb McFeaters, RN, is our part-time receptionist. She has worked with Dr Bauer for 16 years and we are pleased that she is continuing with Loogootee Eye Center. Barb hails from the small farm town of Slater, Iowa and is a graduate of the Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing.
She is married to Paul and mom to Andrew, Mark, and Diane. Barb is well known in Martin County for her community service with the Tri-Kappa Sorority and the Loogootee Methodist Church. Barb represents the people of Martin County on the County Council and services on various boards and committees related to government. In her spare time, Barb loves to feed and watch birds, and photograph nature.
Samantha is married to Dr Alvarez. They have been married for over 30 years, having met in the Crown Point High School cafeteria. She attended Indiana University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.
Prior to working in the office with Dr Alvarez, she was a Montessori teacher in Columbus, Indiana. She then stayed home with their four children, Andy, William, Madeline and Mark. As the children grew, she began to work in the office full time. She enjoys reading, True-crime stories and Court TV.
